Has Your Education Process as a Pre-PT Set You Up For Failure?

At Pre-PT Grind, one of our main purposes is to help YOU get into physical therapy school without wasting time or money. As you all know, YOU are the foundation and future of the constantly changing physical therapy field. Have you ever thought that maybe your education has set you up for failure? Now, before we dive into this topic, we are not talking about this to go against the education system. We are talking about this to really open up your mind to this topic. How you’ve been “trained” to learn from a young age can dictate the huge impact you can have- not only on other people, but also in your own journey as a pre-PT.

We also have to remember what the education system is there to do for us. For example, PT school is to make us competent, entry level clinicians. So, is it failing us? Not in that sense. Are they doing what they are supposed to do? Technically yeah! They are preparing you to enter into the workforce at a competent level and they are getting you enough information to pass that board exam in order to get your physical therapy license.

So maybe we have to take a step back and say is the education system failing us or are we really failing ourselves by not going beyond what the education system has? And if you’re doing what the education system or what the PT school has planned out for you, are you just going through the motions? If you’re just doing the bare minimum and going through the motions, that’s what you’re going to get out of your career as a PT. Is the PT school you’re going to attend/are currently attending failing you by just getting you through the program? Are they just doing their job by getting you that 9am-5pm job that every other PT has? You might think “I thought I would be treating less/more patients” or “This isn’t what I thought it was.”

The biggest things to take away from this is that you are in control of your destiny. You control how hard you study for exams, how much time and effort you put into classes (at both the undergraduate and graduate levels), and how you will choose to apply it. Don’t cut corners. Don’t just get through the class just to get the grade. Invest in yourself, both academically and personally, and always do more than what is expected. You will see that these investments in yourself will pay off in the long run. These are all important things you have to consider and think about. Your future, your education, and your career are all in YOUR hands!
