The Patient Cycle

Marketing and advertising must happen for a patient to come into your world. Once you have marketed and advertised to someone, you are starting to talk to people about a problem that they didn't know that they had. When they show interest, they realize that you might have a solution for them. That then moves them into the sales cycle. Which means that they know that there's a problem that they have. The solution to the problem is physical therapy. Once they are sold on doing a treatment, this is where most physical therapists only work. Physical therapist fulfills and treats clients. Once you finish fulfilling and treating, the patient cycle starts over.

In order to be in the top 1%, you must know how to do it all. The problem is that the doctor has marketed and advertised to the client. The doctor brought the client in and provided the script. The doctor did all the selling for you. So, all you must do is fulfill and treat. Fulfilling and treating pays a certain amount, you must go off the averages of what the market is. I'm not interested in going with the averages. Most physical therapists don't want to learn this. Most people in our profession are resistant to learning. You can learn these skills and you will separate yourself from 99% of the profession but you must be willing to do that.

As a Pre- PT, if I'm seeing a PT while doing my observation hours, I will believe the only way I can get paid more is if I complain about it more. However, I can add my value by taking control. The profession and insurance companies aren't the ones confining me. I can increase my value by taking control but it's not easy to do because of what you're being bombarded with. That’s hard, the skills are easy.

One of the greatest reasons and perks of being my own business is that it pushes me away from all the people that can never do it. I never had those constant negative impressions that were going on. All I had was my patience and time. It’s not hard to do, it’s no harder than learning the brachial plexus, if you even know what that is. The problem that we're facing is if it is worth it. Twenty years ago, PT school was not as expensive as it is today, and I would be doing you a disservice by not addressing that. However, you have an option. You can say it's getting too expensive. You can decide not to be a PT and do something else that will pay more but what happens then? A lot of people will suffer. Whereas, you can learn how to increase your personal value. You can learn as a Pre-Pt student and start applying the skills now. These skills value the minute you start learning them.

There's a guy that currently works for me making $4,000 a month. He was a pre-PT but learned a set of skills that helps me. He makes videos and he learned the skill from me. He learned from me and built on it. He has done a really good job, so I decided to hire him. He learned it and knows how to teach other people so he can turn it into a business and scale it where he doesn't have to make $4,000 a month, he can make $14,000 $16,000 a month.

Would I rather be a PT than a realtor? Yes. I'd rather be a PT than a marketer. I'd rather be a PT marketer, PT salesperson, PT person that's in charge of leads in acquisitions or a PT that knows how to take clients that are patients and turn them into your marketing and advertising. That is infinitely worth more than being a marketer, advertiser, or realtor. That is how it works, That’s the game!
